Siobhan M. Sheehan, D.D.S., M.S., P.C.
For 19 years, Dr. Siobhan Sheehan has been providing her patients with exceptional comprehensive orthodontic care. She grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts, the town in which she now practices. Dr. Sheehan attended the Duxbury Public Schools and graduated from Duxbury High School in 1981. Upon graduating, she received many local scholarships which were very helpful to her in pursuing her college education. In 1999, to honor her father, Dr. Sheehan established the Walter E. Sheehan Memorial Scholarship. Every June two $1,000.00 scholarships are given to a male and a female Duxbury High School graduating senior. These students plan to pursue careers in the science/health profession or in law/law enforcement. Dr. Sheehan's goal is to expand the Walter E. Sheehan Memorial Scholarship into surrounding towns on the South Shore.
Highly educated, Dr. Sheehan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Boston College in 1985 and then attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1989 with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. She went on to complete her General Practice Dental Residency at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1990 before obtaining her Certificate of Proficiency in Orthodontics and a Master’s of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1992.
After receiving her extensive education and training, Dr. Sheehan became a full-time associate in an orthodontic practice in Auburn, Maine from 1992-1995. She then moved back to Duxbury and opened her own orthodontic practice in 1995. Dr. Sheehan recently celebrated 16 years of practice in February 2011...Sweet 16!
Dr. Sheehan feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of orthodontics. Thus, she maintains memberships in many prestigious professional organizations to keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and technology. She is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, South Shore District Dental Society, Mayflower Dental Study Club, which she currently chairs, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society – Zeta Zeta Chapter.
To share her vast knowledge of orthodontics and dental and facial growth and development, Dr. Sheehan occasionally visits local schools, especially during October (Orthodontic Health Month) and February (Children's Dental Health Month), to discuss dental health and orthodontics.
Dr. Sheehan is an avid runner. She has run 13 marathons, including eight Boston Marathons between 1995-2005, and most recently the 2011 Boston Marathon. Dr. Sheehan finished strong and qualified for the 2012 Boston Marathon! Dr. Sheehan's additional marathons include the Chicago Marathon in 2007, Marathon of the Palm Beaches in 2008, the Marine Corps Marathon in 2009 and the New York City Marathon in November 2010. In New York Dr. Sheehan ran as a member of Jack’s Team. Jack’s Team is a dedicated group of runners who ran the New York City Marathon to raise awareness about and money for melanoma and melanoma research. Running has been a big part of her life since dental school. She has raised over $50,000 for many charitable organizations with her marathon running, including MARE, Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange; Metro Lacrosse, a lacrosse league for children in the Metro Boston area; the American Liver Foundation and Jack's Team.
In addition to running Dr. Sheehan enjoys biking and swimming and has participated in several triathlons.
Dr. Sheehan is a board member of the Massachusetts Dental Society Standing Committee of Women Dentists. She also volunteers with Cranberry Hospice, is a past board member of the Friends of the Duxbury Free Library and participates in and sponsors many local races and events that raise money for organizations and charities.
Dr. Sheehan resides in Duxbury with her son, Tiernan. She enjoys photography, gardening, the arts and spending time with her family.
