For 19 years, Dr. Siobhan Sheehan has been providing her patients with exceptional comprehensive orthodontic care. She grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts, the town in which she now practices. Dr. Sheehan attended the Duxbury Public Schools and graduated from Duxbury High School in 1981. Upon graduating, she received many local scholarships which were very helpful to her in pursuing her college education. In 1999, to honor her father, Dr. Sheehan established the Walter E. Sheehan Memorial Scholarship. Every June two $1,000.00 scholarships are given to a male and a female Duxbury High School graduating senior. These students plan to pursue careers in the science/health profession or in law/law enforcement. Dr. Sheehan's goal is to expand the Walter E. Sheehan Memorial Scholarship into surrounding towns on the South Shore.
Highly educated, Dr. Sheehan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Boston College in 1985 and then attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1989 with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. She went on to complete her General Practice Dental Residency at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1990 before obtaining her Certificate of Proficiency in Orthodontics and a Master’s of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1992.
After receiving her extensive education and training, Dr. Sheehan became a full-time associate in an orthodontic practice in Auburn, Maine from 1992-1995. She then moved back to Duxbury and opened her own orthodontic practice in 1995.
Dr. Sheehan feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of orthodontics. Thus, she maintains memberships in many prestigious professional organizations to keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and technology. She is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, South Shore District Dental Society, Mayflower Dental Study Club, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society – Zeta Zeta Chapter.
To share her vast knowledge of orthodontics and dental and facial growth and development, Dr. Sheehan occasionally visits local schools, especially during October (Orthodontic Health Month) and February (Children's Dental Health Month), to discuss dental health and orthodontics.
Dr. Sheehan is an avid runner. She has run 14 marathons, including eight Boston Marathons between 1995-2005, the 2011, 2012 and most recently the 2013 Boston Marathon. Dr. Sheehan ran this year's Boston Marathon as a member of Team Eye and Ear in memory of her sister, Erin Sheehan Taggart.
Dr. Sheehan's additional marathons include the Chicago Marathon in 2007, Marathon of the Palm Beaches in 2008, the Marine Corps Marathon in 2009 and the New York City Marathon in November 2010.
Running has been a big part of her life since dental school. She has raised over $75,000 for many charitable organizations with her marathon running, including MARE, Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange; Metro Lacrosse, a lacrosse league for children in the Metro Boston area; the American Liver Foundation, Jack's Team and Mass Eye and Ear.
On June 9, 2013 Sheehan Orthodontics hosted the 2nd Annual Sheehan Orthodontics 5K Run and Walk. This fun event was a great success! 185 runners and walkers successfully completed the course, a beautiful, scenic route that ran through Halls Corner and around Standish Shores, where Dr. Sheehan grew up. This event raised $4,000.00. Dr. Sheehan was thrilled to present a check of $4,000.00 to the Be Strong Stay Strong Foundation, www.bestrongstaystrong.net. This foundation is raising funds for 2 sisters that were both seriously injured at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. They were waiting to see their mother who was running. Their mother, whom Dr. Sheehan met during the chaos close to the finish line of the 213 Boston Marathon, had run the marathon.
In addition to running Dr. Sheehan enjoys biking and swimming and has participated in several triathlons.
Dr. Sheehan is a board member of the Massachusetts Dental Society Standing Committee of Women Dentists. She also volunteers with Cranberry Hospice, is a past board member of the Friends of the Duxbury Free Library and participates in and sponsors many local races and events that raise money for organizations and charities.
Dr. Sheehan resides in Duxbury with her son, Tiernan. She enjoys gardening, the arts, sports, photography and spending time with her family.
